Grigoriy Sponko was born near Zaporozhye in the village Balky in 1926, 9 June in doctor's family. He drew a lot from his childhood, thus successfully passed the entrance exam to the Republican Art School in Kiev. After finishing school he entered the Kiev Art Institute (university), where he studied at the battle-historic workshop, which was led by Professor KD Trohimenko. Shponko graduated the university in 1954 with honors. In the same 1954 he became a member of Artists Union of Ukraine on recommendations Yablonska, Trohimenko, Shavikina. After graduation he worked as an artist in the Kiev Opera House. Thanks to the experience gained while working on the thesis painting "Admiral Nakhimov", Shponko took part in the reconstruction of the Sevastopol Panorama, which was destroyed during World War II. He participated in painting the main hall of Exhibition of Economic Achievements under the leadership of Deregus MG. Shponko has painted many children's portraits, genre scenes with children's images. His paintings participated in many international art- exhibitions. His paintings are kept in museums of Ukraine, are in private collections in Ukraine, Japan, France, England, USA, Korea, Spain, Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic.
